NAFA hosted Bioenergy Systems… Alfalfa, the Sleeping
Giant, a renewable fuels summit in Washington, D.C.
on August 8, 2007. The Summit featured the benefits of alfalfa as
a candidate crop in the production of cellulosic ethanol and developed
an action plan to catalyze research activity to bring cellulosic ethanol
production technology to commercialization.
As one of the largest crops in the nation in terms of acreage, alfalfa is positioned to be one of the leading candidate crops for cellulosic ethanol production.
The Summit featured an impressive line-up of speakers including executives from some of the pre-eminent bioenergy companies in the world, leading researchers, congressional staff from the House Agriculture and Senate Energy Committees, and administrators from the Department of Energy and USDA's Agricultural Research Service.
